Excuse the blue tint in the upper right - I've definitely got the Charcoal one, but the sky outside had other ideas. |
I was unsure over whether I'd adjust to using a Sling bag (been using shoulder bags all my life, y'see) but I really did need something that would just carry my "day to day" camera equipment that was a tad more convenient than a shoulder bag. I'm often carrying things home from work and it just all got a bit awkward.
WHAT GOES IN MY TURNSTYLE 10?
- Nikon d90 with a Sigma 10-20mm attached, a Sigma 70-300 (or a few Holga lenses, or my wallet, & various other bits and bobs), keys etc go in the front pocket, and my 7" Samsung tablet - this was the important bit - goes in the designated pocket at the back (with or without its case) and maybe a few filters dotted throughout.
When I'm photographing a car show, it also comes in handy for carrying my Sigma 500mm when my wideangle's on the camera (putting the long lens on my belt does mean I need to whip out some truely fantastic balancing acts..) - or if it's raining, which usually happens when I photograph Ford Fair every August.
Safe to say, I am still using the Turnstyle. It's replaced my Retrospective 5 as my 'lets take my camera to work' bag. It's comfortable to wear, nothing inside bumps about, it's nice to know that my tablet is safe in its little padded pocket, especially with my being a tad accident prone.
Now I would just like to point out that even though the Turnstyle can be used as a belt bag, I haven't thoroughly tested this function out. Sticking to the upright position for now, and I'll update this again later :)
Contrary to what I thought of sling bags before, I have discovered a new fondness for them. The Turnstyle really is a fantastic bag, and although I may upgrade to the Turnstyle 20 for one of those days where you feel the need to take everything & the kitchen sink, I could not be happier using this as a day bag.
Functionality; 4/5 - because I really haven't tested it to its full ability with the belt angle.
Comfort; 5/5 - Think Tank really pays attention to what photographers need when it comes to shoulder padding, and the bag in general is just quite comfortable.
Space/Ability to organise your gear; 5/5 - as always, the dividers are flexible but sturdy enough to keep your gear in place, plenty of them, and of course there's all those gorgeous little pockets for pens, styluses, cards etc.
Durability; 5/5 - In the few weeks I've had this bag, it's been dropped, bumped, scraped, rained on, my cats have attacked it..it's fine. More than fine. Still looks new, actually - love that weather-resistant Nylon. The zippers are everyone's favourite YKK's, and I've yet to have any trouble with them, even when I'm in a rush and yanking on them.
Price; 4/5; it may cost a tad more than a few other bags on the market, but I'm a firm believer in that I'd rather pay a bit more for superior quality than spend a few quid on something my camera would sneer at.
Style; 4/5 because it didn't come with spikes & pyramid studs. Just kidding. I'm just more of a canvas girl, but everyone's different.
Conclusion; I love it. A lot. It's still a teeny bit foreign to me using a Sling, but it's so comfortable & easy to use. It's a good sturdy bag and I think we should congratulate the designer on a job well done.
Very good bag from what I've seen
