Ilford Harman Announce Silver Gelatin Paper

Ilford Harman are launching the first new Ilford Black and White Silver Gelatine Paper for 13 years; Ilford Multigrade Art 300, produced in Hahnemühle FineArt GmbH.

This new product follows thorough consultation with both photographers and printers through a research and development project 18 months ago. Survey results identified the need for a "true fine art base with a Multigrade Silver Gelatine coating". The ideal solution would have a 'cool base colour', and a 'neutral to warm image tone'. Over 150 respondents around the world gave their views, and features that popped out repeatedley during the survey were people wishing for older types of paper that aren't, and havn't been, in circulation for some time.

Harman took the decision to try and meet the customers needs and wants, and the result is the Multigrade Art 300, which still keeps all the high qualities and benefits that Ilford Harman paper has become recognised for. Offering a textured matt paper with Multigrade coating, Harman believe they have met the needs outlined in original briefs.

According to Harman, exposure times and the overall product handling will be familiar to previous Multigrade users. Testers have said that the new paper delivers a matt, fine art print that has both texture and what has been described as an 'eggshell sheen'. Compared to Ilford FB Papers, slightly shorter wash times are possible, with the added bonus that due to it's 300 GSM weight, it can be safely handled in large sheets.

The new Ilford Multigrade Art 300 will be featured on the Harman Stand, C2 in Hall 9, at the Focus on Imaging, NEC Birmingham from 6th - 9th March 2011, and the launch date for the UK Market is 4th April 2011.
