Lastolite Uplite 4:1 Review

The new UpLite 4:1 is a reflector system for photographers working in the studio or out on location. Flatpacked in one of Lastolites ubiquitous blue bags, it is trouble free to set up. It takes just a few minutes to screw the supports together and to Velcro the two reflectors to form a hinge. The support is then clipped to the reflectors where it can be adjusted to alter the angle and bounce lighting into a subject from as low as 30 degrees, or at a 90 degrees right angle. There are two UpLite kits and both feature two 120x90cm double-sided reflectors, giving you a choice of four different surfaces to bounce light off.The Cool Tone kit features an array ofWhite, SoftSilver, Silver and SunLite reflective surfaces, while theWarmTone kit offersWhite, Silver, Sunfire and Gold surfaces. Both kits also include a black waterproof cover that will protect the reflector when standing it on a dirty studio floor or on damp ground outdoors.

VERDICT:This product is as straightforward as it is ingenious. It enables photographers to accurately angle a reflector, so that any unsightly shadows on a subject can be suitably filled in with a choice of four different reflector surfaces. If you work alone without an assistant to hold your reflector, youll find the UpLite 4:1 particularly useful. In fact, even if you do have an assistant, this device would free them up to do something else more useful instead.
